Ale Hodhi (potatoes in coconut gravy)

This goes really well with string hoppers, and is a favourite with children.

INGREDIENTS

500g dutch cream potatoes
1tsp salt
2tsp turmeric
1 small onion
2 fresh chillies
400 ml coconut milk
1/2 tsp chillie powder
1tsp cumin powder
2tsp coriander powder
1/2 tsp fennel powder
4cm cinnamon stick
2 sprigs curry leaves
2 tablespoons of coconut oil

METHOD

  1. Peel and cut potatoes into 2cm cubes.
  2. Place salt and turmeric in a bowl, then toss potatoes in the mixture. set aside.
  3. Heat oil and fry potatoes till they are slightly browned
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to boil, then simmer till potatoes are cooked.
